When is college football’s 2016 SEC Championship Game?

For many people, the SEC is the best conference in college football. The list of teams reads like an AP Top-25 ranking, with names like Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia, the conference is loaded with talent. To win the SEC is almost a guaranteed ticket into the College Football Playoff, so the conference championship game is one of the biggest games on the college football slate.

14 teams make up the SEC, which is split two divisions, East and West. The East Division is made up of Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri, and South Carolina. The West is made up of Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Auburn.

In the last 10 years, the SEC has dominated the college football landscape, winning eight of the last 10  national Championships. In that time, Alabama has won four, Florida two, and Auburn and LSU have one.

Last season, the Florida Gators came out of nowhere to go 7-1 in the East Division, clinching a spot in the SEC Championship Game. They would end up playing the Alabama Crimson Tide, who went 7-1 in the West.

In the 2015 SEC Championship Game was played on December 5, 2015, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. The Tide beat the Gators 29-15, and in the process, earned themselves a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama rolled through Michigan State in the semifinal of the CFP, winning the Orange Bowl by a score of 38-0. The National Championship Game was much tougher sledding for the Tide, but they won it all by beating the Clemson Tigers 45-40, giving Nick Saban his fifth National title.

In 2016, the SEC Championship Game will take place on December 3, and will once again be played at the Georgia Dome.
