MLB Trade Rumors: Indians to acquire Andrew Miller from Yankees

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cleveland Indians have acquired relief pitcher Andrew Miller from the New York Yankees.

The Cleveland Indians currently sit in first place in the American League Central. With few weaknesses on the team, the Indians looked to upgrade their bullpen and perhaps find a true closer. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Indians have found their guy as they will acquire relief pitcher Andrew Miller from the New York Yankees.

In exchange for Miller, the Yankees will get Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, and two other prospects, according to Ken Rosenthal.

However, there isn’t any updated word about the Indians and their alleged deal that would send Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy to the Indians.

With Cody Allen as the Indians’ closer, Miller will likely serve as the team’s set up man. The Indians have had trouble getting games to Allen in the ninth inning. With the Indians stellar rotation, Miller makes the them a much better team, especially if fellow relief pitcher Dan Otero continues to pitch great.

Miller is still under contract until 2018, making this a trade that gives the Indians a huge three-year window to win a World Series. Combined with the potential acquisition of Lucroy, the Indians have covered their two greatest weaknesses in their catching and their bullpen.

So far this season, Miller has a 1.39 ERA and has walked just seven batters while striking out 77 in 45 1/3 innings. He was a member of the 2014 American League East champion Baltimore Orioles and the 2013 World Series champion Boston Red Sox.
