The story of the summer has been the departure of Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder. After putting the Golden State Warriors on the ropes with a 3-1 series lead, the Thunder eventually crumbled and were eliminated. Durant, an unrestricted free agent, decided to leave the Thunder and join the Warriors, forming a super team the likes of which we have never seen.

This decision created an acrimonious split with Russell Westbrook, his running mate for the past eight seasons, and even called into question Westbrook’s own future in Oklahoma City. Westbrook, who would have been a free agent next summer could have requested a trade but ultimately agreed on a three-year, $85 million extension with the Thunder that will keep him in place for this season and the next, with a player option for 2018-19.

The story of Durant’s departure and the relationship between Westbrook and Durant and the Thunder, goes back years. With many twists and turns, it can be difficult to follow. Luckily, I have carefully curated 12 tweets that will explain the entire story to you in great and emotive detail. Enjoy.

And that, ladies and gentleman. Is that. Tale as old as time — two buddies who have it all, battling through adversity and growing apart.
