Montee Ball was accused of hitting his girlfriend at a Madison hotel in February. Today, the former Broncos’ running back was sentenced to 60 days in prison because of that incident.

Ball will receive work-release privileges and got credit for four days time served in prison. This is not Ball’s first incident. In March, a woman claimed that Ball threw a phone at her and grabbed her by the neck. In April, Ball was arrested on a bail-jumping charge when he refused a Breathalyzer test when spotted at a bar. He was not to consume alcohol because of the terms of his probation.

Ball played his college football at Wisconsin where he still holds many rushing records. He won the Doak Walker award in 2012. In the span of two seasons in 2011 and 2012, Ball ran for 3,753 yards and 55 touchdowns.

This success did not continue in the NFL. Ball was a second-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2013. In his rookie season, he ran for 559 yards and only four touchdowns in 16 games. In 2014, he played only five games and ran for 172 yards and one touchdown before being overtaken by C.J. Anderson.

While Ball did not live up to all of the hype on the field, he has bigger problems to worry about off of the field. Ball will serve his two consecutive 30-day sentences and he was also granted probation.
