Like the Chargers, the Cleveland Browns will probably not be a great football team in 2016. Each touts one of the weakest rosters in football, and while Cleveland is lead by an offensive-minded head coach in Hue Jackson, the Browns would be wise to inquire about a talent as potentially game-changing as Bosa.

Cleveland could offer next year’s first-round pick, which could work, given that the Browns will likely finish with one of the 10 worst records in football. While the Browns might come to regret missing out on drafting a potential franchise quarterback next year (Clemson’s Deshaun Watson for instance), it could all be moot if Robert Griffin III displays even half of his long-dormant potential.

Being an Ohio State product, Bosa’s name is already a familiar one to the Dawg Pound. Cleveland might have to be an offense-first team to have any success this year, but getting a raw talent like Bosa — a guy that emanates the blue-collar ethos beloved by the Cleveland faithful — might make for an ideal match.

To get out of their quagmire as an awful NFL organization, the Browns have to start thinking differently and take gambles on guys that other teams may shy away from. Cleveland isn’t as frugal as the Chargers, and if it means assuring a defensive anchor for the next decade, owner Jimmy Haslam would likely be more than willing to overpay.
