The Los Angeles Rams are the NFL franchise being represented on this season of HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’. This popular behind-the-scenes football series that documents all that goes into NFL training camp has been a huge hit for HBO for much of the last decade.

In Tuesday night’s first episode of the season, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is seen delivering the news to backup quarterback Nick Foles that he has been released by the Los Angeles professional football team. Given that Fisher is a long-time NFL head coach, he delivered the news with as much class as one could do via the telephone.

The writing was already on the wall for Foles entering the 2016 NFL season. Foles was the starting quarterback for the 2015 St. Louis Rams that wound up with the worst passing offense in football. When the Rams decided to trade up to No. 1 in the 2016 NFL Draft to select California Golden Bears star quarterback Jared Goff, it was seemingly inevitable that Foles’ time with the Rams organization was coming to a close.

Foles has since signed with the Kansas City Chiefs to backup Alex Smith for the coach that drafted him back with the Philadelphia Eagles in Andy Reid. Foles will be able to help the Chiefs fight for a playoff berth should he have to come in and start a game for an injured Smith.

Los Angeles is full steam ahead with Case Keenum as the starter and Goff being groomed as the franchise’s quarterback of the future.
