One year after knocking Geno Smith out of Jets QB battle with a jaw breaking punch, IK Enemkpali gets into another tussle with Bills teammate.

It was the punch heard around the NFL a year ago when IK Enemkpali broke the jaw of Jets quarterback Geno Smith. After the incident he was cut loose, only to be signed by his former coach, Rex Ryan, who had taken over the Bills. This season, Enemkpali got into a tussle with another teammate, Cyrus Kouandjio, but it is unlikely he will be given a pink slip because he is on the verge of becoming a starter in the Buffalo defense.

The 25-year old Louisiana Tech alum and Kouandjio got into it during practice Thursday night, but according to a report at NBC Sports, Enemkpali didn’t take out his teammate like he did Smith. In that case, the quarterback suffered a broken jaw that effectively short-circuited his dream of being the Jets starter that was eventually claimed by Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“I’m still pissed off,” Smith said in another NBC Sports report, adding that the situation fuels him on a daily basis. “That’s not going to change until I get back into the saddle. I do have an understanding that it’s a team game. You do have to be respectful of your coaches and your teammates and you’ve also got to support them. That’s what I’ve been doing, all the while still progressing myself.”

With Fitzpatrick in the fold after a lengthy contract dispute, the only time Enemkpali will get a chance to go after Smith in a more traditional way is if there is an injury. The Bills and Jets play twice, and it would be an interesting meeting if that was to happen.

Meanwhile, Enemkpali is positioned to step in because of the departure Mario Williams and first rounder Shaq Lawson being sidelined with a shoulder injury. Only Manny Lawson stands in his way of becoming the starter.
