By Josh Hill
The NBA is releasing the 2016-17 schedule this afternoon, but when will it be officially announced?
It seems like the NBA Finals were just yesterday and that the NBA Draft hasn’t had time to settle in yet. But already the NBA season is hearing up to start and the unofficial start of next season begins with the release of the schedule tonight.
The schedule is going to get released at some point this afternoon. The reports from Wednesday indicate that the NBA will be dropping the schedule at around 5:45pm ET.
This is the perfect time to scoot into Olympics coverage and drop the schedule for this upcoming season. The most ideal time to do it would have been yesterday after Team USA played Australia — a game which featured NBA talent all over the place.
But instead, the NBA is going to be dropping the schedule tonight and we will finally know all the answers to the questions we have about this year’s upcoming slate of games. From when Kevin Durant is returning to Oklahoma City to when Derrick Rose will play the first game of his career in Chicago as a member of another team, the schedule dropping tonight at 5:45pm ET will give us the insight we crave.
There’s also the matter of the Christmas Day games to figure out as well. The Knicks are rumored to have gotten their Noon ET slot back and will be battling the Celtics. We also know that the Cavs and Warriors will meet in what appears to be the newest Christmas Day rivalry.
