Retired NBA Lakers star Kobe Bryant will get his own honorary day on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

NBA superstar Kobe Bryant will be honored in the city of Los Angeles on Wednesday. The former Lakers star will get his own “Kobe Bryant Day,” as announced by the Los Angeles City Council.

According to CBS Sports, the City Council first announced their decision on Monday. The date 8/24 also matches up with the two jersey numbers that Kobe wore during his career. He’s considered in many circles among the top 10 players in the game after a Hall of Fame career.

Bryant officially retired just four months ago. Despite it being a losing season, he still went out having won multiple championships with the Lakers. He also racked up a career total of 33,643 points in the NBA, which has him ranked third all-time. Add to that countless All-Star appearances, an NBA MVP award and five championships for the Lakers.

Kobe will receive recognition for his contributions on the court, as well as off the court. That includes he and his wife’s Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation. The program helps improve the lives of youth and families in need. It also encourages younger individuals to use sports to stay active.

Kobe has done all of that in addition to volunteering time with various causes. Just recently, he also flexed his business muscles a bit and got involved in some technology investment firm.

Part of City Council’s statement noted, “For 20 years, we were all the beneficiaries of Kobe’s incredible talent and legendary work ethic, and on 8-24 we’ll gather to say, ‘Thank you, Mamba.'”

Bryant will receive his honorary event at City Hall in Los Angeles on Wednesday. It’s likely that there will be plenty of celebrities and former Lakers greats stopping by for the celebration.
