Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin has had enough of teammate Michael Bennett’s complaining about his contract situation.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is widely known across the league as one of the most talkative and open players in the league. If Bennett has something to say and you have two working ears, you’re gonna hear it.

This offseason when he wasn’t playing word association with his brother Martellus, you could hear Bennett rambling over and over about how he deserves a larger contract. Bennett does make some good points, as he’s one of the most productive Seahawks on defense. Even with him making plays in the Seahawks’ front seven, he is only the 27th highest paid DE in football, behind players like Jared Odrick and Carlos Dunlap.

What was once a reasonable complaint has turned into the broken record of the summer. Bennett has said it all. He’s claimed he’s a top five defensive end in the NFL and claims if Seattle doesn’t believe he’s that talented, they should just get rid of him.

“It’s hard to take him serious when he talks about other guys taking food off his kids’ plate – when he is driving around here with 10 different cars, you know?”- Doug Baldwin

The flair for the dramatic may come off as a sympathetic sob story to some, but not teammate Doug Baldwin. He’s officially done with Bennett pouting and stamping his feet like a toddler who just got told he can’t have McDonald’s for dinner.

After Baldwin and All-Pro corner Richard Sherman got into a fight at practice that left Baldwin with bruises and stitches, Bennett mentioned there was a “code” players shouldn’t cross regarding the personal health and safety of players. This absolutely threw Baldwin off the edge.

“I mean, yes, there is a ‘code.’ But Mike B. doesn’t always necessarily operate by that code, either,” Baldwin proclaimed in an interview with The News Tribune. “It’s hard to take him serious when he talks about other guys taking food off his kids’ plate – when he is driving around here with 10 different cars, you know?”

Ding-ding-ding.

You can understand both players’ positions in this fight. As mentioned, Bennett is a top defensive end, yet does not get paid like one. He also could have some animosity towards his teammate Baldwin, who just cashed in on a four-year $46 million extension, while Bennett has struggled mightily to feed his family off of his $7 million cap hit this season.

Even though Bennett should get paid higher, Baldwin has a point. There’s a difference between sounding deserving and sounding petty. Bennett received a big pay day in 2014 when he signed a four-year deal worth $28.5 million, with $16 million guaranteed.

He’s made his point, and now must wait to settle contract disputes behind closed doors. You can’t start calling players out or run your mouth more than the Seahawks run the ball.

If you’re a betting man, you should bet the house that Bennett will respond. There’s no way motor mouth Michael Bennett will let Baldwin’s comments quietly go into the night. You should expect a Broadway-like production for the scene Bennett is about to put on.
