Back in 2013, then Texas A&M assistant coach David Beaty saved a child’s life. Three years later, the child’s family will be rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Back when David Beaty was an assistant coach at Texas A&M University, he decided to go to a trampoline park. He took his family to Cosmic Jump in the Houston area, and by the end of the day, he would be a hero to one family.

Max Menchaca was also there with his family, but he would be the victim of tragic events. He fell through a tear in the trampoline at the end of the slide and landed head first on concrete five stories below.

Beaty, who was near the child, jumped right in after him. Max’s mother said that Beaty comforted her son, talked to him, and held him as he was having seizures. She believes that Beaty is the reason why her son is still alive today, and wanted the world to know of his heroics.

Max’s sister posted the story on her twitter.

In the twitter post, Lea talks about being Beaty’s guest when the Jayhawks visit Oklahoma State of October 22. They are Oklahoma State fans, but will definitely be cheering for the coach on that day.

Max was only 16-years old when he fell through the trampoline and has struggled with life since the incident. Although he was able to graduate from high school, and now attends college at Sam Houston University, the effects will last throughout  his life. He still struggles with balance and abstract reasoning, and may incur early onset dementia due to the bleeding on his brain.

In March, the family was awarded over $11 million dollars in damages.

Judging by his heroics, coach Beaty appears to be the right person to lead the Kansas Jayhawks football program. The team struggled through a 0-12 season in 2015, so he will definitely be looking to advance the program going forward. He is a great man, and the Jayhawks should be much improved in 2016.
