Southampton face Sunderland at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, August 27. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Southampton have gotten off to a mixed start to life under new manager Claude Puel. They had to come back from a goal down at home to Watford on the opening and were soundly beaten by Manchester United at Old Trafford last week. Still, in both matches, they showed plenty of promise. Dusan Tadic remains one of the league’s most dangerous playmakers, Shane Long has the potential to be 15 goal a season striker and Virgil van Dijk and Jose Fonte formed one of the best center-back duos in the league last season. After two disappointing, but not terrible, early results, the Saints will be hoping for a big win against Sunderland.

Sunderland have been narrowly avoiding relegation for seemingly ever at this point. The Black Cats were hoping the appointment of upper-mid-table aficionado David Moyes would bring an end to that stretch, but losses to Manchester City and, more disturbingly, Middlesbrough suggest it may be another long season for the North East club. Jermain Defoe remains a legitimate goalscoring threat up top, but it’s not clear who will be able to supply him with any consistent ammunition. Young American midfielder Lynden Gooch has been solid in Moyes’ midfield, but he may not be the creative spark this team needs.
