Kevin Owens won the Fatal 4-Way main event of WWE RAW to become the new WWE Universal Champion, but not without a little unexpected help from Triple H

Suffice it to say that many vocal fans of professional wrestling had one guy they really wanted to win in the main event of WWE RAW on Monday night from Houston. With the WWE Universal Championship on the line, it seemed as if the majority of fans wanted Kevin Owens to win. As guys like Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns (and Big Cass, too) were in the match, that seemed unlikely still.

Even with Cass was the first eliminated, Owens being one of the final three wasn’t comforting. It still felt like Rollins or Reigns was the destined winner. And after a while, things started playing out that way. Rollins was in control, but then Roman started going on his “Superman” rage streak taking both guys out. That’s when the calamity ensued.

Triple H returned out of nowhere to attack Reigns first on the outside. He forced THE Guy to eat a Pedigree on the floor. Hunter then rolled Roman back into the ring and pushed his hand-picked guy, Rollins, into the ring. Seth scored the pin. It then seemed as if Kevin Owens was next to feel Triple H’s wrath, but that wasn’t so much the case.

Instead, Triple H turned back around and attacked Rollins. He delivered a Pedigree to the man who was once his ally. Owens then took the opportunity and covered him for the three-count. That’s right; Kevin Owens is the new WWE Universal Champion:

For anyone who followed Kevin Owens prior to WWE, this is truly an emotional moment. And even if you’ve only followed him since NXT, that’s still the case. This is one of the most hard-working guys in the business and he deserves this.

Even better though, WWE RAW now seems to be getting it. They’ve struggled in the “new era” to kick old, stale habits at times. However, this shows signs of a larger plan in the wake of the Finn Balor injury. And now, you have every right to be excited about where it’s headed.
