Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan will be placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. He will be out the first six weeks of the 2016 NFL season.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Miami Dolphins “placed DE Dion Jordan on the reserve/non-football injury list, which puts him on the shelf for the first six weeks.”

Jordan had dealt with a lingering knee injury this offseason. New Dolphins head coach Adam Gase doesn’t want to rush back his pass rusher before he has to. Miami should be just fine in the pass rush in 2016 with players like Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake, and Mario Williams.

The Dolphins traded up to draft Jordan with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Oregon. Jordan, like many first-rounders in his draft class, has not panned out. He missed all of 2015 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

Since going No. 3 overall to the Dolphins, Jordan has only played in 26 games. His only start came in the 2014 NFL season. His career totals include three quarterback sacks, 39 combined tackles, and three passes defended. Jordan has not been worth the Dolphins trading up to get him with the Oakland Raiders.

Now that Jordan will be on the reserve/non-football injury list to start the 2016 NFL season, it won’t be until mid-October that he can take the field again. When he can get back on the field in Week 7, Jordan will have missed 22 straight games for the Dolphins.

Jordan could redeem himself when he returns in the middle of October, but Jordan has not lived up to the hype as being the first defensive player taken in the 2013 NFL Draft.
