Not in the movies, sadly, because despite what the DC films have been like so far, you know you’d pay to see that.

So far, the DC Rebirth initiative has been a big success. Not only has it allowed DC to outsell Marvel for a bit, but it’s gotten some lapsed fans back into the fold who were put off by the New 52.

While it’s still early days, Rebirth has done it without featuring any crossovers or events, but that will change in December with some of its most popular characters clashing and art by one of the company’s rising superstars.

As revealed by the Wall Street Journal, that crossover is Justice League vs, Suicide Squad, written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Jason Fabok. The main series will be six issues — two in December and four in January — with tie-ins to both the Justice League and Suicide Squad series as well.

For longtime DC comics fans, it sounds like the event will be rooted in a theme that will resonate with one of the best showdowns from several decades ago: Batman vs. Amanda Waller.

"The story will revolve around Batman questioning the need for Waller’s Task Force X in a world where the Justice League already exists. “He decides to put a stop to it,” Williamson said."

Batman memorably confronted Waller over the existence of the Suicide Squad during the team’s memorable run under the guidance of writer John Ostrander. Exploring that dynamic for a new era only makes sense, and Fabok has already shown off his chops with big action and large casts when he was the artist on the previous volume of Justice League.

With other titles spinning out of the crossover, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad sounds like a perfect jumping on point for anyone who hasn’t been swept up in the Rebirth fever. Ask your LCS to save you a copy now, because it’s likely to be a brisk seller.
