Drew Brees may have signed on the dotted line with the New Orleans Saints to stay around for at least two more seasons.

Drew Brees’ contract situation with the New Orleans Saints has come up in recent days. Brees had reportedly been ready to resume contract talks, but only before the NFL season starts this weekend. He is entering the final season of a five-year, $100 million contract.

With the regular season starting on Thursday night, it looks like Brees and the Saints have come to an agreement. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brees is signing a one-year extension with New Orleans, and will get $44.25 fully million guaranteed.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter would add that this deal is for five years with a void after two. Brees will get a $20 million salary in 2016, and $24.25 million in 2017.

Depending on how he performs, this could be the last big contract Brees receives. He’s entering his age 37 season, with this deal bringing him guaranteed money until he’s 39. So, the former Purdue star could begin a drop in production at any point. It should be noted that Brees hasn’t had a season below 4,000 yards passing since 2005, however. He has also missed just two games since 2009, meaning injuries haven’t been a factor.

Brees has been with the Saints since signing a free agent contract in 2006. He won Super Bowl XLIV with them in 2010, defeating the Indianapolis Colts. Brees is also a nine-time Pro Bowler, having been named one in 2004, 2006, and from 2008-14. The career accolades have been strong during his time in NOLA, and will look to add to them over the next two seasons. He’ll have to work to bring the team back to the playoffs, though. They missed out in 2015 by finishing 7-9, third place in the NFC South. The Carolina Panthers, the division’s winner, finished 15-1 and made it to Super Bowl 50. So, getting by them may be a task.
