Lamar Jackson found the end zone for the fourth time on Friday night by hurdling a Syracuse defender to make it 35-7 Cardinals.

Lamar Jackson can do no wrong for the Louisville Cardinals in the early part of the 2016 NCAA season. His fifth touchdown of the day versus the Syracuse Orange on Friday might have been his best. Jackson completely leapt over a guy for his fourth rushing touchdown.

Jackson had four touchdowns on the Syracuse defense in the first quarter alone (three rushing, one passing), but Orange head coach Dino Babers’ up-tempo offense had the Cardinals woozy for most of the second quarter.

The Louisville quarterback took some tough hits, including a few roughing the passers by a frustrated Orange defense. Jackson continued to make great passing plays, but his receivers fumbled the football twice on sure-fire Cardinals scoring drives.

Up 28-7 with three and a half minutes until half time, Jackson ran the read option before going to his left. At the Syracuse seven yard line, Jackson left his feet to completely leap over the Syracuse defender for an improbable fourth rushing touchdown, his fifth overall in the first half.

Jackson could have easily just run out of bounds inside the 10-yard line for another shot at getting into the end zone. He had other plans and decided to go vertical in his breakout game of 2016. Jackson now has 13 touchdowns in his first six quarters of the 2016 NCAA season. He’s making a very early statement that he wants to be included in the Heisman Trophy race.

Though neither the Charlotte 49ers or Syracuse are anything close to ranked football programs, Jackson’s performances in the first three halves of 2016 cannot go unnoticed. Louisville will go as far as its star quarterback will take it this fall.
