Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson had three touchdowns before the 10-minute mark of the first quarter versus the Syracuse Orange.

It hasn’t even been five quarters of the 2016 NCAA season for the Louisville Cardinals, but star quarterback Lamar Jackson already has 11 touchdowns on the season. His third of the game against the Syracuse Orange was jaw-dropping.

Jackson’s first touchdown of Friday evening came on a 72-yard play-action fake. His second was a more modest scamper into the Orange red zone. This third one, well, this was just Heisman worthy.

On the Louisville 28-yard line, Jackson executed the read option magnificently. The Syracuse front seven bit hard on Jackson’s fake as he runs to the right off tackle for an easy first down. He would split a pair of Orange defenders at the first-down marker (one fell down), and then Jackson was off to the races with another 72-yard touchdown.

Jackson had two 72-yard touchdowns in less than five minutes time on the Orange defense; one through the air and one on the ground. His 11 touchdowns in less than five quarters of play this season has to have Jackson on the early 2016 Heisman Trophy watch.

Jackson does play in the same ACC Atlantic Division at Clemson Tigers’ 2015 Heisman finalist quarterback Deshaun Watson, but he’s been the most impressive play maker in the ACC thus far in 2016.

He’s thriving in head coach Bobby Petrino’s offense in 2016. From reportedly not having a playbook when he quarterbacked in high school to torching an ACC defense is a testament to how hard Jackson worked in the film room this off-season.
