Sprint Cup Chase Race No. 1: Qualifying canceled, Kyle Busch on pole

Defending champion Kyle Busch gets prime starting spot for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 after rain washes out qualifying.

Kyle Busch (No. 18 Toyota) will start from the pole for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 at Chicagoland Speedway after rain threw a monkey wrench in activities at the 1.5 mile track Friday afternoon. The 2015 defending champion gets the coveted spot as well as the choice of pit stall, which is likely to be the first one nearest the exit from pit row.

Busch not only topped the Sprint Cup standings, but the Joe Gibbs Racing entry was also seeded first in the corresponding owners’ standings, giving him the pole and pit choices.

Brad Keselowski (No. 2 Ford), who will begin the Chase for the Sprint Cup tied with Busch in points with 2012, will start on the outside of the front row. Both drivers received 12 bonus points because they were the only drivers to win four times.

Instead of qualifying that was scheduled to begin around 6:30 p.m. ahead of the Camping World Truck Series American Ethanol E15 225, Sprint Cup drivers were given plenty of practice time on the track.
