The Chicago Bears are being trounced at home by the Philadelphia Eagles, and now it appears their quarterback may be done for the day.

Jay Cutler is out as the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears, after apparently injurying his hand during the Bears Monday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cutler was hurt after throwing a pick-six against the Eagles, who have been in control the entire game. Cutler was not playing well before the injury, so maybe his backup can do a better job moving the ball.

And who is the backup? None other than Brian Hoyer, who started nine games for the Houston Texans last season. Hoyer actually was the Texans starter in the Wild Card Game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but he played very poorly. He has some good experience in the league, so at least the Bears have someone a bit reliable under center.

For Cutler, his career in Chicago has been quite a roller coaster. Most fans do not even want him as their quarterback, but the Bears continue to trot him out there. The position is not very deep in the NFL, so there are not many available options out there. The Bears were not winning with Cutler, so maybe Hoyer can breathe some life into their offense.

Chicago has one of the best young wide receivers in football in Alshon Jeffrey, but he is being wasted with Cutler under center. Hoyer connected well with his star receiver in Houston, DeAndre Hopkins, so look for him to rely on Jeffrey if he has to take over for Cutler for an extended period of time.
