A look at what happened in this WWE Clash of Champions match between Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens for the Universal Title.

The main event of WWE Clash of Champions saw Seth Rollins challenge Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship. This match came about after The Architect looked for revenge from a previous title bout on Raw. Triple H had made his WWE return, but cost Rollins the fatal four-way match, and assisted KO in winning the belt, seemingly aligning the two in the process.

The Game hasn’t been seen since this happened. So, could he make his presence felt during this match?

Here’s a look at what happened in this Clash of Champions headliner.

Owens ran away from the ring, but Rollins caught and whipped him into the barricade. The latter man continued his assault on the champion in the ring, getting a few near-falls.

Owens would take over and get Rollins out of the ring. The challenger also may have tweaked his knee, which he hurt in 2015. KO then hit a flying elbow off the apron and whipped Rollins into the turnbuckle.

Rollins worked back with a slingblade and brought the action to ringside. He would clear off the Spanish announce table, but went back to Owens in the ring. The former Intercontinental Champion took back over, hitting a cannonball in the corner for a near-fall.

Off the top rope, Owens hit a gutbuster and a frog splash, destroying the ribs of Rollins for a near-fall. Owens then looked to put Rollins through the announce table, but after getting cocky with the “S**k it” gesture, he missed a senton and went through it!

After Rollins hit a frog splash, Chris Jericho ran to the ring to try to provide a distraction. However, Owens would miss a pin attempt off it.

Rollins hit a pedigree, but Jericho put Owens’ foot on the ropes. Owens then went for a pop-up powerbomb, and as Rollins countered it, he hit into the referee. The first NXT Champion then hit a pedigree, but the referee didn’t see the pin attempt.

As Stephanie McMahon sent out a referee, Rollins got distracted, leading to Owens hitting a pop-up powerbomb for the win.

This was a fine match to close out Clash of Champions. Owens and Rollins clicked in their first WWE contest to provide a quality main event. The spot where the Universal Champion went through the announce table got the crowd going, along with the traded frog splashes.

The finish is the main takeaway, though. Stephanie McMahon sent a referee to the ring a little later than expected, and had a look on her face after Rollins lost. Could she be in on his demise?

Triple H’s absence continued at Clash of Champions as well. There hasn’t been a sign of him since the Universal Title match on August 29, and barely a mention of his name in the succeeding weeks. Reasoning is still unknown. Maybe we’ll get an answer on Raw?
