Which five teams will be on upset alert during Week 5 of the college football campaign?

Entering conference play, college football is gearing up for some of the most exciting and competitive play of the young season. So far, we have witnessed a wealth of excitement, but it always seems to increase when conference foes go at it. With that increased level of play comes a number of upsets.

As you know, road games are rarely, if ever, cakewalks. Just ask teams like Florida State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Georgia how tough it is to win on the road.

However, home games in conference play aren’t exactly gimmes, either. Central Michigan marched into Stillwater and stole a win over then-ranked Oklahoma State, Duke traveled to Notre Dame and upset the Fighting Irish and, heck, Appalachian State nearly pulled off a mammoth upset over No. 9 Tennessee on the road to start the year.

The season is getting more intriguing by each passing week and that is due, in large part, to the amount of upsets increasing coupled with the increase in competitive play.

Contenders are beginning to stick out while pretenders will be trending in the wrong direction from here on out. The top four right now seems to be locked, but with league play getting underway, that could change in an instant.

There are plenty of interesting games on tap for Week 5, but a few stand out as potential upset specials. Let’s take a look at five teams that could be in some trouble this coming weekend in Week 5.

Texas’ opening week win over No. 10 Notre Dame isn’t looking as impressive it did at the time seeing as the Fighting Irish are now just 1-3 on the season. So, how good are the Texas Longhorns really? We are about to find out as they take their first Big 12 road trip of the season to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State has already been involved in an upset this season, however, the Cowboys were on the wrong side of one. They hosted Central Michigan in Week 2, but a penalty with no time left gave the Chippewas one last chance to win, tossing up a Hail Mary with no time left. Central Michigan ended up winning on the final play, shocking the nation.

Now hosting Texas, the Cowboys are looking to make up for that loss and record a statement win over No. 22 Texas to start conference action. Stillwater is a tough place to play already, but it’ll be even more difficult for Texas seeing as Oklahoma State is still trying to prove itself after their upset loss.

No, the Cowboys aren’t as bad a team as they showed against Central Michigan, but it might take a win over Texas to prove that to the rest of the nation.

Texas has already shown it doesn’t have a great defense this season, allowing 50 points to Cal and 47 to Notre Dame to start the year. Coming off another tough loss to Baylor but boasting one of the best passing and scoring offenses in the Big 12, the Cowboys could pull off a nice upset over Texas this week.
