Indianapolis Colts GM Ryan Grigson threw shade at his own quarterback.

The new $140 million man in Indianapolis is the subject of Ryan Grigson’s latest excuse. According to a podcast on Fox Sports Radio, Grigson told Jay Mohr that the excuse behind the Colts stout defense is Andrew Luck.

Yes, the elite quarterback that you signed for six years deserves the blame for the 125 points your defense has allowed in four games. Overall, the Colts rank pretty much near the bottom of the totem pole in every defensive category. Let’s also just point the finger at Luck for the Colts’ 1-3 start, which puts them in last place in the AFC South.

For beginners, it’s all the fault of the general manager.

In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Colts were more concerned about handing out contracts to players who could “protect” Luck. Of the seven drafted, four are on the offensive front. Trouble also occurred in terms of offseason transactions. Trent Cole, for instance, was offered just over $5 million, but he ended up as a bust.

Let’s not even dig into the signing of Antonio Cromartie – a deal inked earlier this year, the Colts ended up cutting the veteran DB. He recorded just 14 tackles in four games.

A team with a history of bad luck in the postseason, Grigson still has no room to jump on Andrew Luck’s back. Since drafting him, the Colts maintained an 11-5 record for three straight seasons. Last year, the Colts defense was still one of the worst in the league. They surrendered 6,066 yards in total offense (7th) and 331 first downs (10th). Grigson didn’t blame Andrew Luck in 2015, so what’s the point in doing that now?

Defensive Summary – 2016 Indianapolis Colts

Points Against: 125 (4th)

Total Yards Allowed: 1,531 (10th)

Yards/Play Allowed: 6.1 (6th)

First Downs: 92 (8th)

Penalties: 37 (2nd)

Yeah, Luck hasn’t played great so far this year, but if the general manager put some talent around him for a change, perhaps the Colts wouldn’t be sitting in last place.
