Where can you get a PlayStation VR at midnight?
By Nick Tylwalk
If you’re one of those gamers who absolutely, positively has to get your hands on Sony’s VR hardware as soon as humanly possible, we can help you with that.
PlayStation VR is almost here. While it’s not the first or most powerful headset in the current wave of virtual reality hardware, it’s quite possibly the one that will truly bring it to the masses, since plenty of people already own a PS4.
What’s not clear is how many of them will spring for PlayStation VR right away. The price is right at $399.99, but since you also need a PlayStation Camera and some PlayStation Move controllers (though some games will work with the regular DualShock), most people will need to shell out another $100 for the bundle that includes those items.
If you’re one of them, you can grab a PlayStation VR beginning tonight at midnight. Maybe. Here are the notable retailers who are selling them right away:
GameStop
Some, but not all GameStop locations are opening at midnight for the PlayStation VR launch. And actually, they’ll just stay open from their normal hours tonight, because you’ll be able to walk in and plunk down your money beginning at 9 p.m., then pick up your actual unit beginning at 12:01.
Follow this link for the stores nearest you that are participating.
Best Buy
The electronics retailer is also an option, with some stores opening at 12:01 a.m. to sell the PlayStation VR. Find participating locations here, with the caveat that in some states, they are few and far between. Only two in my home state of Pennsylvania, for instance.
Amazon
PlayStation VR is listed as “currently unavailable” in its official Amazon listing. However, that same listing also mentions that it will be available for pre-orders beginning at 9 p.m. Pacific time (or midnight Eastern) tonight.
Customers are limited to one unit each, and Amazon recommends having your credit card and shipping info up to date before you order. How soon will you get your unit? Good question, but knowing Amazon, it’ll be the next best thing to buying one in person tonight.
What about Walmart? Certainly a possibility, as some of its stores are open 24 hours, though the chain doesn’t appear to be doing anything special with regard to a PlayStation VR roll-out tonight. Both Target and Toys ‘R’ Us are saying they will have launch bundles available tomorrow.
Where there’s a will, there’s generally a way with these types of things, especially since PlayStation VR is essentially a fancy peripheral and not a brand new console. Good luck tracking one down if you’re determined to get one tonight.
