Ahead of the huge Alabama vs Tennessee game, Volunteers fans had a fantastic trick in store for the Nick Saban statue in Tuscaloosa

Bad blood only does the rivalry between the Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tide a bit of justice. These two schools and fan-bases can’t stand one another. That’s why, ahead of their Week 7 college football matchup, Tennessee holds Bama Hate Week. This involves just about everything you can imagine to disparage the Tide from rolling.

With such a bitter rivalry in play, though, you always have to worry about some fans taking it too far. We’ve seen instances of stupid vandalism in past years throughout the SEC. Luckily, though, Tennessee fans opted for a much calmer, yet equally effective route, ahead of Saturday’s matchup.

Though the game on Saturday will be played at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, TN, the Vols fans have invaded Tuscaloosa. And in doing so, they took aim at the statue of Nick Saban on Alabama’s campus. Rather than defacing it (which would’ve been taking it too far) they were masterful with a subtle gesture. That gesture, of course, being putting a Tennessee flag in the hand of the Bama head coach’s statue. Perfection:

This is how you execute a prank. Nothing or nobody is hurt by this, but you know that Alabama fans are absolutely fuming because of it. The Tennessee Athletics Twitter account is indeed correct; if there were awards for stunts in college football, this would need to be in the running for top honors.

As for the action set to take place on Saturday afternoon, the rivalry might add its best chapter yet. Alabama is the same juggernaut that they always are, this time armed with freshman star Jalen Hurts. However, Tennessee is both immensely talented and tremendously lucky in 2016. When all of these things clash on Saturday, it should be fantastic. And the real Nick Saban likely won’t be holding a Vols flag, if I had to guess.
