In a key battle between the last seven AFC South champions, the Houston Texans hosted the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football.

The Houston Texans may look back at their 26-23 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts as a turning point for the club. That is, if they can follow it up with a road win or two in the coming weeks and remain the team to beat in the AFC South.

Trailing 23-9 in the fourth quarter, much-maligned quarterback Brock Osweiler overcame a number of shaky moments by getting hot when it counted most. He connected for a pair of late touchdown passes and helped lead the club into the extra session.

After holding the Colts in overtime, the young signal-caller teamed with second-year wide receiver Jaelen Strong for a 36-yard gain.

It set up Nick Novak’s 33-yard field goal and Bill O’Brien’s club remains the only team in the division with a winning record. The victory also snapped the Colts’ three-game winning streak at Houston.

Three Stars

1. Brock Osweiler

Apparently, the fifth-year signal-caller enjoys primetime and overtime. You will recall that as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos last season, he helped win a game against the New England Patriots with a late rally. Against the Colts on Sunday night, he overcame one interception by throwing for 269 yards and a pair of scores as Houston rallied from 14 points down in the final quarter.

2. Lamar Miller

The do-it-all performer did his best to lead his team to victory by scoring his first two touchdowns of the season. Miller ran 24 times for 149 yards and a score and added 29 yards on three receptions. In the fourth quarter, he took a short Osweiler pass, headed right, circled back to the middle of the field and scored from 10 yards out to help change the momentum in Houston’s favor.

3. Vontae Davis

The former Pro Bowler kept Texans wide receiver Andre Hopkins under wraps for the vast majority of the evening. Osweiler was forced to look at other options and did rally Houston to a win in overtime but Davis deserves his due. Hopkins was targeted 15 times in the game and caught nine passes for just 71 yards and never reached the end zone, his biggest gain a mere 12 yards.

Next Week

The Indianapolis Colts hit the road for the third time in four weeks and once again face a divisional foe as they head south to battle the Tennessee Titans.

The Houston Texans will get an extra day of preparation and will need it as they face the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos (who lost at San Diego on Thursday evening) at Denver on Monday night.
