The Washington Redskins play host to the Eagles, one of the NFL’s biggest surprise successes so far this season.

After a stellar second half to 2015, Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins has fallen back to earth; the same could be said for the Eagles’ Carson Wentz, who suffered his first professional loss and interception last week in Detroit.

Despite their loss to the Lions, the Eagles are still rated as the number two team in football by DVOA. With that said, a solid performance by Wentz would go a long way toward calming fickle Philadelphia fans’ nerves. Washington, meanwhile, looks to remain above .500 and keep their hopes of capturing the NFC East for the second consecutive season afloat.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Carson Wentz

The Eagles’ rookie quarterback has been sensational in Doug Pederson’s offense. He’s mostly played within a relatively conservative passing attack, but he’s proven that when necessary, he can put spectacular deep throws on a dime.

2. Josh Norman

Norman will be tasked with stopping Wentz. Unlike the rest of the NFC East, the Eagles don’t have any star wide receivers, so Norman shutting down half the field and forcing Wentz to throw receivers open on the other half would go a long way towards helipng the Redskins secure a much-needed win.

3. Fletcher Cox

Wentz has gotten most of the attention, but Fletcher Cox is still the best player on the Eagles. The defensive lineman has four sacks and wreaks so much havoc that what was a middling pass defense in 2015 is the second best in football in 2016.
