After a slow start to the game, the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Chicago Bears in a thrilling 17-16 victory. Here’s the highlights and game recap.

The showdown between the Bears and Jaguars did not disappoint as the game went down to the wire with Jacksonville winning the game. Both defenses showed up as it was a low scoring contest.

In the first half, Chicago led at the half 10-0, with scores from Jordan Howard and Connor Barth. It appeared that the Bears would be well on their way to the second win of the season.

In the third quarter, Jacksonville was scoreless, and the Bears lead grew to 13-0 after Barth hit yet another field goal. After the Jags backs were against the wall, Blake Bortles morphed into the quarterback that has displayed star potential. After a Chris Ivory touchdown, the lead was trimmed to six at the start of the fourth quarter, and the Bortles show was under way at Soldier field.

Bortles reeled off a string of passes, including a 51-yard touchdown to journeymen wide receiver Arrelious Benn that was eventually the go-ahead score to win the game .

The win gives Bortles and the Jags their second win of the year, which allows head coach Gus Bradley to keep his job for the time being. For the Bears, it places them near the bottom of the NFL as they are 1-5. Six games into the year, it’s clear they will have to reassess what’s next for the remainder of the season.

Highlights:

Three Stars

1. Cameron Meredith

In a losing effort, Meredith played out of his mind. The Illinois-bred wide receiver hauled in eleven receptions for one-hundred and thirteen yards. This is a good sign for Chicago as they are in need of more playmakers on the offense. If Meredith continues to play at a high level, he could develop into a great compliment alongside Alshon Jeffery.

2. Jalen Ramsey

The rookie out of Florida State didn’t get an interception, but he broke up Brian Hoyer’s final pass. For Ramsey it was a timely play needed for the Jags as they reeled off their second win of the season. On top of the pass breakup, Ramsey finished the game with two solo tackles and he held all-everything wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to less than 100 yards.

3. Blake Bortles

The quarterback that fans have grown accustomed to see was on display in the second half. After a slow first half, Bortles, finished the game with 271 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and a quarterback rating of 84.3. The victory against the Bears was his second road game in his career in fifteen tries. For most of the season, Bortles has played mediocre, but against Chicago, he showed flashes of being a franchise quarterback.

Next Game

Chicago will be making their routine trip to Green Bay in Week 7, which spells bad news for the Bears. Jacksonville’s next game will be an AFC clash against the Oakland Raiders, who boasts one of the most potent offenses in the NFL.
