With four halfbacks on the depth chart, KC finally shipped one away for a conditional late round pick.

After swirling rumors in the offseason regarding his status as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, Knile Davis’ future became quite clear on Tuesday morning. Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star was the first to announce the Chiefs had dealt away Davis for a conditional late rounder.

The move makes sense considering Chiefs general manager John Dorsey was formerly with the Packers organization. Besides from taking back the occasional kick return this season for Kansas City, Davis had practically no role through six weeks of 2016. To put it in perspective, on the year he has one carry for -2 yards

Davis will be mostly remembered by Chiefs Kingdom for his timely fumblitis on Sundays. However, his bright moments with KC included some impressive spot starts and a kickoff return for a touchdown in each of the last three seasons.

With the Chiefs fully entrenched in the backfield with Spencer Ware, Jamaal Charles and Charcandrick West, there was no longer room to carry a special teams luxury like Davis. For the Green Bay Packers, the move makes sense considering RB James Starks will miss some time with a knee injury. The Packers can now work in the former Chief to complement Eddie Lacy. It should be interesting to see how this pans out, as Davis’ game does not resemble Starks’ in any fashion. Green Bay has lost a shifty third down back with good hands.

Right now, they have reached DEFCON 1 in Green Bay. The offense and Aaron Rodgers continue to struggle mightily, and the injury bug is making its way throughout the roster. Veteran corner Sam Shields just hit the IR today. It might be a must win for the Packers on Thursday night, and maybe Knile Davis can help.
