After just one year into their relationship, the Spurs may already be looking to deal LaMarcus Aldridge during the 2016-17 season.

LaMarcus Aldridge had been one of the top free agents available in the summer of 2015 class. He spent nine years with the Portland Trail Blazers, but the team never advanced far in the playoffs. So, he looked to go elsewhere and joined the San Antonio Spurs, who had the necessary cap room to sign him.

Well, it seems the 2006 No. 2 overall pick’s time may be coming to a close already. According to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan, he may not finish the 2016-17 season with the Spurs. Things apparently didn’t work out as hoped between the two sides, so a move could come midseason. It wasn’t noted what he did to warrant this either. MacMullan explained in an appearance on CSNNE.com:

This is a surprising left turn that’s not usually seen in San Antonio. They have had a model of consistency for the Gregg Popovich era with top players like Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, and Tony Parker sticking around for over one decade. There have rarely been any hiccups within the organization that went public, making Aldridge’s situation a unique one and something worth monitoring. He’s entering the second season of a three-year deal with a player option for the fourth.

As for where he could go, the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics could be options. Both teams have the necessary picks and young talent to offer in a trade if the Spurs decide to move him.

So, the LaMarcus Aldridge era in San Antonio could come to an end soon. If he’s moved, it may shake up the organization for a second time since the playoff elimination. They lost Tim Duncan and may lose yet another big man despite adding Pau Gasol.
