NFL roundup: NFL to open Josh Brown probe, Giants sign new kicker
By Brad Weiss
The NFL will reopen the probe against New York Giants kicker Josh Brown, whose personal journals and emails were tough to read on Thursday.
The New York Giants headed off to London for their Week 7 NFL matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, but their kicker was not with them. Josh Brown, who was suspended for Week 1 because of domestic violence, may see himself shut down for much longer than that.
Brown’s personal journal and emails were released on Thursday, and the document contained some horrifying behavior by the kicker against his wife.
With Brown out for the game against the Rams, the Giants signed veteran kicker Robbie Gould to take his place. Gould, the Chicago Bears all-time leading scorer, was cut by the team prior to the 2016 season. Gould struggled during the preseason for the Bears, but will get a fresh start in New York. Kickoff for the Giants vs Rams game is slated for 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday morning.
Speaking of the Rams, they may be getting ready to see what their 2016 first overall pick can do with more practice time. Jared Goff, whom the Rams traded the farm for in order to get the top pick in last April’s draft, is expected to get more reps in practice once the team returns from London.
Goff has been much sharper in practice in recent weeks, and despite solid play by Case Keenum, the team wants to make sure Goff is ready if his number is called.

Week 7 of the NFL season got started on Thursday night, as the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers did battle in an NFC North matchup. In the first half, Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer broke his left arm, and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Third-string quarterback Matt Barkley took over for Hoyer, and actually looked good on his first drive.
Former starter Jay Cutler should get his gig back once healthy now that Hoyer is likely to miss a bunch of time with the injury.

Terrelle Pryor has been one of the feel good stories in the NFL this season, as the former quarterback has become a star for the hapless Cleveland Browns. Pryor, who once was the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, as well as in college at Ohio State, has turned himself into the team’s best offensive weapon. He is playing on a one-year contract with the Browns, but he and the organization opened up contract negotiations on Thursday.
Pryor leads the team with 33 receptions for 413 yards and four touchdowns, including one on the ground. His goal is to stay with head coach Hue Jackson, who has helped him transition from quarterback to wide receiver.
