It has been a lost season for Washington Redskins rookie wide receiver Josh Doctson. The first round pick out of TCU is now heading to injured reserve.

The Washington Redskins are playing great ball the last month. After losing their first two games of the season, Washington has rattled off four straight wins to enter Week 7 at 4-2. Coincidentally, Week 2 was the last game that their first round pick wide receiver Josh Doctson has been able to play for the Redskins.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Doctson has been placed on injured reserve before the Redskins’ Week 7 game on the road against the Detroit Lions. Tight end Jordan Reed also will not play against the Lions on Sunday.

Doctson will be eligible to come off IR in eight weeks time. However, that means the rookie wideout from TCU cannot suit up for the Redskins until Week 15. That would be a Monday Night Football game at home versus the Carolina Panthers on December 19th.

Washington is wisely choosing to be precautionary with Doctson’s Achilles’ tendon issues this season. The Redskins are still a viable offense in the NFC. Washington can still win the NFC East without Doctson doing much of anything for them in 2016.

On the season, Doctson has just two catches for 66 yards. He was injured in Week 2’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. It’s safe to say that the Redskins are probably going to shut down their No. 22 overall pick out of the 2016 NFL Draft.

The last thing head coach Jay Gruden will want to do is rush Doctson back before he is at full strength. Doing so in late December might cause another in Doctson’s recovery. Washington would rather have him back at 100% for 2017 training camp than anything else.
