Pat Hughes calling the final outs of the Chicago Cubs’ Game 6 victory in the NLCS was something that will be cherish by Cubs fans everywhere.

No, you’re not dreaming that the Chicago Cubs are going to the World Series. That is actually going to happen. Seriously.

For the first time in 71 years, the Chicago Cubs are heading to the Fall Classic with a 5-0 victory over Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night in Chicago.

The final two outs of the Game 6 win for the Cubs came off a neatly-turned double play from Addison Russell and Javier Baez to send baseball’s best team to their first World Series since 1945.

The moment was captured well by Pat Hughes, the long-time voice of the Chicago Cubs.

Here’s a listen of Hughes’ call:

To hear the words, “The Cubs win the pennant” had to feel like the sweetest satisfaction for die-hard fans everywhere. The nightmares of 1984 and 2003 are long gone at this point. The lasting image of Steve Bartman being escorted out of Wrigley Field 13 years ago are forgotten.

Hopefully for Bartman, he had those old headphones on and got to hear Hughes’ call.

These young guys have taken baseball by storm and they’ve become the sweetheart of sports. You won’t find too many sports fans not pulling for the “Loveable Losers” to finish this off and complete history. (Well, outside of Cleveland, Ohio anyway.)

There’s still four more wins to get, but this win will bring quite the fiesta in Chicago throughout the rest of the weekend and into Game 1 of the Fall Classic on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

It’s surreal to see this World Series. It’s stuff like their story that makes sports so fun and enjoyable.
