After Jay Ajayi ran all over the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins delivered the knockout blow in the form of a 66-yard touchdown by Kenny Stills.

The Buffalo Bills came into their game against the Miami Dolphins with all the confidence in the world. After an 0-2 start, they won four straight, with their latest being a blowout win over the San Francisco 49ers.

But when LeSean McCoy was doubtful heading into this game, the writing was on the wall that they would lose. The Bills are the best rushing team in the NFL, and McCoy has been absolutely dominant through six weeks. He tried to force the issue by playing on a limited snap count, but he left during the game. If the injury turns out to be long-term, he may have ended up putting the Bills’ season in jeopardy.

As for the Dolphins, their running game was the reason they won the game. After Jay Ajayi broke out against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he delivered an encore by piling up 214 yards on 29 carries. But despite his best efforts, it was still a four-point game, so Ryan Tannehill needed to make a big play. That’s when Kenny Stills stepped in and scored a 66-yard touchdown:

The Bills scored shortly thereafter, but it was too big of a deficit to overcome. They should be given credit for hanging in even after McCoy left the game. But perhaps they lost to the Dolphins because they were already looking ahead to the New England Patriots.

It’s a shame because Tyrod Taylor had a hell of a game. With Mike Gilislee being ineffective on the ground, Taylor made the best of his efforts as a dual-threat quarterback. But despite 256 total yards, the Dolphins came away with the win.

Had the Bills won five straight games heading into their meeting with the Patriots, it could’ve made the AFC East somewhat interesting. But now, it’s basically a foregone conclusion that Bill Belichick’s team will win the division yet again.
