The Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks tied their Week 7 game on Sunday Night Football at six points apiece. Arizona is 3-3-1 and Seattle is now 4-1-1 on the season.

The Arizona Cardinals tied the Seattle Seahawks, 6-6 on Sunday Night Football in Week 7. This was the first tie in the NFL since the Carolina Panthers tied the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014. The biggest difference between that game and the one on Oct. 23, 2016 was that game tied at 37 points apiece. This one ended in a 6-6 tie with no touchdowns to speak of.

Arizona should have won this game easily over the Seahawks. The Cardinals had nearly twice the yards over the Seahawks and dominated the time of possession. Arizona held a 3-0 lead on a Chandler Catanzaro field goal entering the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals would have a punt blocked that set up a Steven Hauschka field goal late in the fourth quarter. This game would need overtime all tied up at three points apiece. Catanzaro and Hauschka would each kick another field goal in overtime before ravaging the hearts of fans in both NFC West cities.

Catanzaro would miss a 24-yard field goal by hitting the left upright. Seattle would take it the length of the field before Hauschka would sweep it wide left like Blair Walsh on his field goal attempt with seconds left. Either made field goal would have ended the game 9-6. Instead, we have to deal with the consequences of a tie.

What gets lost in this game was how well both defenses played. Players like Cliff Avril, Deone Bucannon, Bobby Wagner, and K.J Wright would play fantastically in this game. People might talk about the defensive struggle in Glendale on Sunday Night Football, but it’s more likely that they’ll be talking about the low-scoring tie.

Three Stars

  1. Bobby Wagner: Wagner was big on the Seahawks defense and special teams unit. He had 13 tackles (12 solo) and a pass defended.
  2. Deone Bucannon: Bucannon was the best player on the Cardinals defense on Sunday Night Football. He had 13 tackles, 11 of which were of the solo variety.
  3. K.J. Wright: Wright was another player on the defensive side of the ball that shined in Week 7. He had 10 tackles (all solo), a tackle for a loss, and a pass deflection.
