A photo has surfaced of a 1993 high school yearbook senior quote predicting a 2016 World Series title for the Chicago Cubs.

For Michael Lee, a 1993 graduate of Mission Viejo High School, this year’s National League pennant and World Series birth for the Chicago Cubs did not come as much of a surprise.

This longtime Cubs fan took the opportunity to use his senior quote in his high school yearbook as a platform to make an extremely bold prediction. Under Michael’s senior portrait you can read the following: “Chicago Cubs. 2016 World Series Champions. You heard it here first.”

"Michael Lee 1993 Yearbook – Entire page"

Although we can not confirm this, one would have to imagine that this photo was indeed the first time anybody had heard of the Chicago Cubs winning a World Series title in the foreseeable future, let alone 23 years down the road.

Mind you, back in the summer of 1993, the Cubs were in the midst of a season where they finished fourth in the American League East with a record of 84-78. This season would be a highlight for the early-90s Chicago Cubs, as it was the only winning record for the franchise from 1990-1994. That was the last season that Ryne Sandberg batted over .300 and the first time Sammy Sosa hit 30 home runs. Despite the winning record, that season would be the second and final season at the helm for manager Jim Lefebvre

All of those factors allowed for young Michael Lee to gaze into his crystal ball, watch Sammy Sosa’s corked batter shatter across the Wrigley infield, see Steve Bartman jump in front of Moises Alou in Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS, and know Theo Epstein would head west to attempt his next curse reversal, all leading to the inevitable 103-win season and march through the playoffs for Chicago’s first World Series birth since 1945.

Whether or not Michael Lee can claim to have accurately predicted the end of a 108-year World Series title drought remains to be seen, but when watching the 2016 Chicago Cubs in action, you have to like his odds.
