Watch as Dylan Larkin scores his first goal of the 2016-17 NHL season with a ridiculous breakaway goal.

Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin’s best asset isn’t a secret. It’s without question his speed. Larkin, who set a record during last year’s All-Star competition, put his speed on display against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday Oct. 25. Against the Hurricanes, Larkin raced past their defense to score his first goal of the season.

That’s some terrible defense from the Hurricanes. They have to know to never let him get behind them because once Larkin gets past you, you’re not catching up to him. However, Larkin should be given some credit for finding the soft spot in their coverage. Larkin’s teammate Henrik Zetterberg deserves credit as well for giving him a flawless feed.

The Red Wings second year sensation wasn’t done either. He added another first period goal later in the period to make it 3-0 Red Wings. Larkin scored his first two goals of the 2016-17 season against the Hurricanes. His two goals assisted his team in winning yet another game, their fifth straight. It’s encouraging not only that Larkin got going against the Hurricanes, but that the Red Wings have been done well despite not getting goals from Larkin until tonight.

Thanks to the heroics from Connor McDavid, Shayne Gostisbehere, and Artemi Panarin, Larkin is often forgotten about when people discuss second year players. He has three points so far this season in seven games. During his rookie season, Larkin had 23 goals and 22 assists for 45 points. So far in his second season, Larkin has actually seen a decrease in his ice time, going from just over 16 minutes in 2015-16 to under 16 minutes. The 15th overall pick of the 2014 NHL Draft went to Michigan for college. He joined the Red Wings for the first time in 2015.
