After seeking a second opinion Wednesday, C.J. Anderson is expected to miss multiple weeks with a knee injury.

The Denver Broncos run game looked fantastic Monday night against the Houston Texans. The C.J. Anderson-Devontae Booker combo had the Denver offense clicking. That facet of the game may be less effective now given the news of Anderson’s knee injury. He went down in the first quarter on Monday night’s game clutching his knee. While it seemed scary at the time, he ended up re-entering the game only to rush for 107 yards and a score.

Now, NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo has reported that Anderson is expected to be out “at least a few weeks” after receiving a second opinion on the injury:

It’s mind-boggling that Anderson could be facing a multi-week absence after playing through the injury during the majority of Monday night. Given the current prognosis, it seems that could have further damaged his knee. It has even been floated around that Anderson could miss the rest of the season.

Regardless of Anderson’s timetable, the Broncos’ ground game will now revolve around Booker. He has been mighty impressive in limited action this year, posting a 4.8 yards per carry average on 51 attempts. If you are an Anderson owner in fantasy football, you should sprint, not jog, to grab Booker.

No matter how Booker performs in Anderson’s absence, this is still a big hit for the Broncos. Given the nature of their quarterback situation, they were looking to rely heavily on their 1-2 punch for the rest of the season. Trevor Siemian has performed admirably, but more pressure on his shoulders is not what this team needs.

One thing is for certain, we’re going to see exactly the type of player Devontae Booker is in the coming weeks. He will be looked upon to handle roughly 20-plus touches per game, which is a big responsibility for a rookie.
