The Jacksonville Jaguars will head into Week 9 with a new offensive coordinator. Former OC, Greg Olson, has been relieved of his duties.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a change to their coaching staff. No, Gus Bradley wasn’t relieved of his duties, rather it was offensive coordinator Greg Olson was fired, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The move comes after a 36-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars are 2-5 on the season and have nine games remaining. Of the remaining nine opponents, seven are teams above .500.

Rapoport added that there had been a disconnect between Olson and Bradley. The main issue, apparently, was the lack of a focus on the run game. Currently, the Jaguars are 31st in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 72.6. The only team worse than them is the New York Giants. However, Jacksonville was 13th overall in passing yards per game with 258.0.

The Jacksonville Jaguars rely on TJ Yeldon, Chris Ivory, and Blake Bortles for the bulk of their run game. Yeldon, Jacksonville’s leading rusher (220 yards), averages 31.4 yards a game. Surprisingly, quarterback Blake Bortles is second in total rushing for the team with 145 rushing yards and averages 20.7 a game. Chris Ivory only has 40 rush attempts on the season and averages 25.8 yards a game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have promoted their quarterbacks coach, Nathaniel Hackett, according to Ian Rapoport. Hackett is an interesting choice given that Blake Bortles has been under a lot of scrutiny for appearing to regress.

But Hackett does have experience as an offensive coordinator. Before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hackett previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills for the past two seasons. Two seasons before joining the Bills, he served as the offensive coordinator for Syracuse.
