How many teams in MLB history have been able to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the World Series?

The Cleveland Indians have taken a commanding 3-1 lead in the 2016 World Series over the Chicago Cubs. On Saturday night, they took full advantage of Chicago with their bats and they were able to shut down any offensive efforts with great pitching. With a huge lead in the series, the odds of Chicago coming back are not good.

They aren’t impossible either. If they were to come back and win three straight games, they would not be the first team to do so. Four teams have come back from a 3-1 deficit to win it all and do the impossible.

Those four teams are the 1985 Kansas City Royals, 1968 Detroit Tigers, 1958 New York Yankees and the 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates. Of those four teams, the Tigers and the Yankees were able to do the unthinkable and win the final two games on the road.

So the Cubs do have a slight chance and will have their three best pitchers going if they are able to keep winning. However, they’re going to have to find a way to break through against that stellar Cleveland pitching that has been shutting them down all series except for one game.
