A look at what happened in the Hell in a Cell match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte.

The main event of WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 would end up being Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s Championship. This is the first time women have ever headlined a company pay-per-view on the main roster. Banks and Bayley closed out NXT TakeOver: Respect in October 2015.

Not only would Banks and Flair make history with main eventing, but they also battled inside Hell in a Cell. This would be the first time women have competed in this match.

So, on Sunday night, Sasha and Charlotte would wrestle in WWE’s most dangerous structure. They not only made history, but received the chance to close a nine-month feud. What would go down in their match?

Before the match could start, Charlotte would attack Banks and slam her into the announce table. They then spilled into the crowd and began brawling. The cell eventually closed down to the ground, but Charlotte looked to climb up it anyway. Sasha met her up there. Charlotte then climbed down and powerbombed the champion through the announce table.

Banks stayed down for minutes as referees and trainers came down to check on her. They even placed The Boss onto a stretcher. Charlotte mocked her throughout this and the referee even gave the Charlotte the title. However, as JoJo began announced the new champion, Banks got up and charged her way into the ring.

The brawl (and actual match) would begin. They beat each other up at ringside and even saw Charlotte hit a monkey flip into the cell.

Sasha briefly regained herself in the ring with the Bank Statement, but Flair got out of it and threw her over the ropes. The two-time Women’s Champion then hit a big suicide dive through the ropes.

In the ring, The Queen regained herself and hit a few nasty chops. Banks briefly swung momentum in her favor, until Charlotte dropped her back-first into a steel chair.

Sasha hit three consecutive vertical suplexes, a tribute to the late Eddie Guerrero. This got a nice “Eddie” chant from the Boston crowd. She then hit a frog splash for a near-fall. A double knee attack onto a chair followed this.

Charlotte would set up a table at ringside. They then battled on the top turnbuckle, but as Banks went to get Charlotte on the table, it broke (probably ruined a big moment for the match. Things then slowed down until Charlotte put on the Figure Eight.

Charlotte looked to hit a moonsault, but Sasha stopped it. She then picked up her foe, leading to the injured back giving out. Charlotte hit Natural Selection fo the win.

Charlotte somewhat surprisingly won the Raw Women’s Championship from Sasha Banks for the second time. This is the latest belt trade in the nine-month feud, which is seemingly going to continue until someone can win the belt for two consecutive matches.

The match was great, though. Charlotte and Sasha got the chance to headline a PPV in a Hell in a Cell bout and put on a show. It should lead to intriguing fallout on the upcoming episode of Raw.
