When are the first College Football Playoff rankings released?

The 2017 College Football Playoff is closer than we think. When are the first 2017 College Football Playoff rankings released?

The first 2017 College Football Playoff rankings be released on Tuesday, November 1st at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN. The College Football Playoff Selection Committee will have met for the first time after the Week 9 slate of games. They will rank the Top 25 teams in the country, including the coveted four playoff spots.

This is the third season the Division I FBS college football will be using the College Football Playoff to decide a national champion. The committee of 12 meets to discuss how to rank the Top 25 teams in the nation.

The 2016 College Football Playoff Selection Committee is as follows:

  • Kirby Hocutt, Chair: Texas Tech Red Raiders athletic director
  • Barry Alvarez: Wisconsin Badgers athletic director
  • Jeff Bower: Former head coach of the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles
  • Herb Deromedi: Former head coach of the Central Michigan Chippewas
  • Tom Jernstedt: Former NCAA executive vice president
  • Bobby Johnson: Former head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores
  • Jeff Long: Arkansas Razorbacks athletic director
  • Rob Mullens: Oregon Ducks athletic director
  • Dan Radakovich: Clemson Tigers athletic director
  • Condoleezza Rice: Former United States secretary of state
  • Steve Wieberg: Former college football reporter, USA TODAY

The Committee will gradually release its Top 25 from 25 to No. 1. The last two years, the Committee unveiled its ranked teams in chunks from 25 to No. 7. Then the Committee one-by-one reveals its six teams that would be in if the season ended today. Those teams are the four that are in and the first two that are out.

The four teams that will be in for the first 2017 College Football Playoffs rankings are obvious. In some order, they will be the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Clemson Tigers, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Washington Huskies. All four of these teams are 8-0 on the year in their respective Power 5 conferences. The first two teams out should be the Louisville Cardinals and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
