Chicago Cubs reliever Aroldis Chapman injured himself running over first base in the seventh inning of Game 6 on Tuesday night.

The Chicago Cubs had an interesting dilemma in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night. As the Cubs held a five-run lead over the Cleveland Indians, Joe Maddon had to decide whether or not he wanted to bring Aroldis Chapman in. The issue being whether he wanted to possibly save him for Game 7.

Maddon wasn’t going to just assume that his team was going to hold the lead and decided to bring Chapman in. With two runners and two out in the bottom of the seventh, Chapman faced Francisco Lindor. Lindor hit one back and he raced Chapman to the bag. Lindor was initially ruled safe and Chapman appeared to have injured his leg running over the bag.

Replay showed Lindor was indeed out, but it didn’t change the fact that Chapman had come up hobbling after the play. Trainers immediately tended to him, but the reliever was clearly limping as he left the field.

There will be plenty of questions about whether or not it was worth the risk, but Maddon felt he needed to bring his best reliever in. He would remain in the game in the following inning.
