What you need to know:

As we move through the second week of the NBA season, we’re trying a new experiment here at FanSided. This game hub has live stream information for all of tonight’s games, a quick preview, and links to some of our favorite basketball pieces from today to read while you’re waiting for tip-off. Once the games get started, we’ll be updating this post with highlights and scores from all of tonight’s action. Come back tomorrow morning and check in for a recap of anything you missed.

Highlights:

Aaron Gordon brings the dunk contest to the regular season

You may remember Aaron Gordon from this. Or this. Now, you can remember him for this as well:

This is indisputably a dunk contest dunk, pulled in a regular season game. He gets five gold stars for execution, five more for artistry, and five for pure chutzpah.

Pacers do verticality

Roy Hibbert used to be the center for the Indiana Pacers. He used to be one of the best rim protectors in the league, and he used to be famous for his verticality — rising perfectly perpendicular to the floor so as not to be called for a foul when contact occurred.

Myles Turner is the Pacers’ new starting center and he seems to have the basics down.

That shot was absolutely swallowed, engulfed even. Well done, young fella.

Oh…Joakim…no (NSFW)

So, Joakim Noah was out here shooting jumpers. The fact that Andre Drummond gives him about 17 feet of space as he’s teeing it up should be a pretty good indication of this is going to end.

It looks like he was shooting a medicine ball. Or a ball made of concrete. Or maybe there was like a really strong fan blowing down from the ceiling directly at that spot on the floor. There has to be an explanation besides, “he missed by six feet.”

And a pinch of nutmeg

Everything is better with a little spice. Nutmeg makes for a beautiful seasonal accoutrement.

Why settle for a plain old assist when you can embarrass a defender by sending a pass directly through their legs? Well played D’Angelo Russell, well played.

The Reign of Embiid

Joel Embiid has been downright filthy to start the season. A little sloppy, sure, but joyous and dominant. Is there anything more fun than Embiid getting announced as “The Process”? (h/t Pro Basketball Talk)

The 76ers are still figuring out how to win basketball games but Embiid is certainly going to help. Case in point:

That block came with less than two minutes left in the game and the 76ers protecting a four-point lead. That’s a winning basketball play. Of course, Embiid turned the ball over just a little later and the 76ers lost. But we’re getting closer.

ICYMI:

Here are a few of our favorite basketball pieces from around the FanSided Network.

At The Step Back, Howard Megdal talked with Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics about his aspirations and optimism for the future.

As an aside, if you haven’t found your way to The Step Back yet, please come check us out. We’re a new NBA vertical here at FanSided, meeting you at every obsessive niche of fandom — stats, stories, art, podcasts, etc. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter, @The_Step_Back.

Ray Allen announced his retirement today (he hasn’t played since 2014) and leaves behind a confusingly balanced legacy. Allen had big moments for the Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle Supersonics, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat. What jersey will you remember him in?

With Devin Harris out, Seth Curry has had an opportunity to secure his spot in the Mavericks’ rotation. Three games in, he’s still trying to find his rhythm.

Our relationship with LeBron James has always been defined by doubt. But that’s our problem, not his.

Clevis Murray of Sir Charles in Charge sat down with Kirk Lacob, Assistant General Manager of the Golden State Warriors, to talk about technology and the Warriors’ historic offseason.

So, about those Chicago Bulls. They’ve won their first three games and so far have the most efficient offense in the league. What the heck is going on? If they season ended today they’d be favorites to meet the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. Even if it’s nothing but the noise from small sample size, we may as well go ahead and enjoy it while it lasts.

The whole sixth-man role seems to be working out just fine for Zach Randolph.

The Denver Nuggets almost took one from the Toronto Raptors last night. Sure, they’re just 1-2 to start the season but they’ve looked really good at times and could be the Western Conference surprise that everyone thought the Minnesota Timberwolves would be.

Miami has been surprisingly frisky and the Heat are starting to take the training wheels off Justise Winslow.

Remember when we weren’t sure Myles Turner could run without hurting himself. Yeah. Now he’s knocking on Karl-Anthony Towns’ door and asking to be invited to the “Best Young Big Men” party.
