RCR names Matt Borland as crew chief for Paul Menard

Matt Borland will replace Paul Menard’s interim crew chief Danny Stockman at the end of the season.

Richard Childress Racing officially announced Wednesday that Matt Borland will assume the responsibilities of crew chief for the No. 27 Chevrolet driven by Paul Menard at the end of the 2016 racing season. He will be replacing interim crew chief Danny Stockman.

“Matt’s experience as an engineer in both NASCAR and Formula 1 will be critically important to the growth of RCR’s Sprint Cup Series program,” said Chairman and CEO, Richard Childress, in a release. “He has an impressive background and will be a great resource to our racing operations.”

Borland, 45, joins RCR after a decade at Stewart-Haas Racing where his last position was Vice President of Competition. A native of Big Rapids, Michigan, he brings more than two decades of experience to the team and has previous experience as a NASCAR engineer and crew chief and spent time at Pi Research, a well-known engineering organization, PacWest Racing, Team Penske and Michael Waltrip Racing.

“Richard Childress Racing is one of NASCAR’s most prestigious race teams with a storied history and I’m thrilled to be a part of this organization,” Borland said. “I’m looking forward to working closely with Dr. Eric Warren and the staff of talented engineers and employees. I’m confident my experience in various forms of motorsports will contribute to RCR’s continued success on track.”

Stockman, a seven-year veteran at RCR, is a highly regarded crew chief having won two championships in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. He took over on Menard’s pit box at Pocono on July 31.
