League of Legends, the PvP game that has become the cornerstone of professional gaming, may soon be staging matches at a theater near you.

If you’ve never had a chance to watch a big-time League of Legends tournament, you should.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the League of Legends World Championships hosted their semifinal matches in a sold out Madison Square Garden. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the finals took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The game was shown to the audience via a giant projection onto the stage itself. Buckets of confetti rained down when SK Telecom secured its second World Championship win in a row.

Yeah, it’s a pretty big deal.

For those who are hoping to one day compete in League of Legends competitions themselves, that chance is coming. Super League Gaming (SLG) has partnered with the creators of League of Legends, Riot Games, to host city-wide competitions in movie theaters. SLG’s goal is to make esports accessible and social while still within a large, arena-like setting.

Competitions will come in two forms: City Champs and City Rec. City Champs will be for more serious players, who are looking for high stakes gameplay. City Rec will be more casual, good for social pick-up style games.

SLG plans to roll out these competitions first in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Miami. Additional cities are set to be announced in 2017.

This is not the first time SLG has worked to make gaming a more social experience by hosting events in movie theaters. They are in their fifth season of a similar Minecraft series.
