Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed in principle on a new contract with Real Madrid of La Liga stay with the club through 2021.

Major news in association football has erupted on Sunday, November 6th. Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a new contract to stay with Real Madrid of La Liga through the 2021 season.

Ronaldo has been with Real Madrid since the 2009 season after spending the previous seven with Manchester United of the English Premier League (2003-09). Ronaldo is 31 years old and will exit his prime as a member of Real Madrid.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2009, Ronaldo appeared in 244 games and scored 265 goals at the Spanish club’s most iconic player today. He also spends time playing for the Portuguese National Team, where he has more caps (135) and goals (66) than anyone in the country’s history.

Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in Real Madrid history. He is second in scoring all-time in La Liga, behind only his rival in Argentinian striker Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona.

Some have argued that Real Madrid would be better off having let Ronaldo walk, as opposed to having him come back on a five-year extension. Is he one of the best players in soccer history? Absolutely, but it seems that Real Madrid is paying him more for what he’s done than what he can continue to do for the club.

Messi and FC Barcelona continues to overshadow him in La Liga. The Portuguese National Team has not been as great as it once was during Ronaldo’s days in his early 20s. For now, Ronaldo will be with Real Madrid through the next five full seasons in La Liga.
