The Seattle Seahawks cornerback, no stranger to controversy, posted on Twitter to defend his actions in last night’s game.

The media has been on fire today following last night’s Bills at Seahawks game. It was the best Monday Night Football game of the year, complete with many controversial plays. Oddly enough, all of them included Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

The collision between Buffalo Bills kicker Dan Carpenter and Sherman has been the topic of much discussion. What started out as an ordinary field goal try turned out to be anything but that. Sherman came off the edge very early, drawing an offside penalty. The collision occurred as Sherman went to block the kick, although it appeared he didn’t touch the ball and only contacted Carpenter.

Referee Walt Anderson only ended up making the offside call, leaving many people wondering why no “roughing the kicker” flag was thrown.

As expected, Rex Ryan was one of the people in disagreement. He could be seen on the sideline ranting against the referees, as well as Sherman himself.

This play set off a series of strange events, and many believe the referee crew botched the process.

Sherman has been a lightning rod for his entire career and never shies away from confrontation. After watching the media question whether or not he was a “dirty player,” he took to Twitter to defend himself.

The photo that he posted shows his hand clearly on the ball. Although it may not be enough for some people, it does show what his intentions were. In his post-game interview last night, he clarified the situation. He said that if he didn’t break up the play and Carpenter made the field goal, then the Bills could have simply declined the offsides penalty and taken the three points.

Last night’s game drew a 7.8 overnight rating, the lowest for Week 9 MNF since 2007. People seem to be frustrated by the poor officiating, but at least the game produced good storylines. Once the election passes, I think the ratings will begin to get back to normal.
