It wasn’t pretty and it didn’t have to be.

For the first time in four tries this season, the Houston Texans managed to win a road game. They continued their recent mastery of the Jacksonville Jaguars and escaped the Sunshine State with a 24-21 victory.

Bill O’Brien’s team was limited to only 273 total yards and quarterback Brock Osweiler threw for just 99 yards. But for the first time this season in nine games, the AFC South leaders played turnover-free football.

Meanwhile, mistakes continues to plague the Jaguars. They coughed up the ball two more times and now have 19 giveaways this year. Quarterback Blake Bortles threw for 265 yards and two scores but his lone interception was taken back for a touchdown by Houston cornerback Kareem Jackson.

The Texans not only raised their record to 6-3 but remained perfect (3-0) against its division rivals this season.

Three Stars

1. Lamar Miller

No touchdowns and no receptions for the five-year pro. But he ran for 83 tough yards on 15 carries and helped the Texans kill the clock late in the game to preserve the victory. He was part of a Houston ground attack that finished the afternoon with 181 yards.

2. Kareem Jackson

The Houston defense came up big when it had to and Jackson’s big play early in the game proved to be crucial. He took a Blake Bortles pass and raced down the sidelines for a 42-yard score to give the Texans an early lead. Jackson finished the game with six tackles – all solo efforts.

3. Allen Robinson

It was too little too late for the Jaguars. But the 2015 Pro Bowler totaled nine catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in the three-point loss to the Texans. Robinson also caught a two-point conversion pass from quarterback Blake Bortles to narrow the deficit late in the game.

Odds

There was an interesting spin to the line here. The game had the Houston Texans a 1.5-point favorite earlier this week. Now the Jacksonville Jaguars are the choice by odds-makers via 2.5 points. The OVER/UNDER currently sits at 42.

Next Week

Next Sunday, there will be a big-time cat fight in the Motor City as the Jaguars head north to face the Detroit Lions. On Monday night at Mexico City, the Texans tackle the red-hot Oakland Raiders, who will be well rested following an off-week.
