Wondering what time period ‘Fantastic Beats’ is set before it releases on Friday? Don’t worry, we’ve got everything you need.

After a long and highly anticipated wait, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to release on Friday, November 18. Another addition to the Harry Potter series we’ve all known to love, Fantastic Beasts will star Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, the author of the book titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them mentioned in the original Harry Potter series, and lead to four other Fantastic Beasts movies.

Unlike Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Fantastic Beasts is, in fact, a prequel to the original Harry Potter series, occurring almost 60 years before Harry Potter was even born.

    • Set in the mid-1920s in New York, we can expect to see an abundance of our favorite stereotypical 20s slang and outfits, mixed in with everything that makes us love the original Harry Potter so much.

    If “nearly 60 years before Harry Potter was born” isn’t quite giving you the perfect picture of when Fantastic Beats is set before you head to this movie to immerse yourself in the wizarding world once again, I’ve got you covered with even more nerdy specifics.

    Fantastic Beasts takes place in the 1926. Harry Potter was born on July 1, 1980, and Voldemort was defeated during the Battle of Hogwarts in May of 1998. This means that Fantastic Beasts takes place exactly 54 years before Harry Potter was born and 72 years before Voldemort’s death.

    That being said, there certainly could be cameos from several older characters from the prior Harry Potter movies. However, expect a group of new characters to which we can attach ourselves emotionally, and hopefully, this time, J.K. Rowling doesn’t kill everybody we love at the end.
